Every Home Should Have At Least a Few Fun Ideas of Potential Renovations That Could Be Completed
Everyone wants to have their own dream home. However, it’s unlikely that you’re going to walk into a home and say “this is perfect, this will remain forever unchanged”. Most homes can use a few renovations to get it to where you want it to be. Renovations can be based on damage, substandard performance, or simply on the appearance of a part of a home. Regardless of the reason, many renovations can be chosen based on their price. Some renovations are fairly budget friendly, while others are very expensive and time consuming. Whatever you want to choose should match the priorities you have for your home. This article is going to look at several simple home reno ideas that can be performed on the home.
1 - Refinish Cabinets
In many cases, installing new cabinetry can be a very expensive option when you’re redoing a part of your kitchen. It admittedly usually looks quite good. If you have the money and the cabinets can’t be saved, then you’ll need to go that route. However, there’s another option. Simply giving cabinets some new paint or a different finish can completely give them a new look. If they’ve been dark for a long time, try something bright. Another simple item is to change the handles or knobs that have been on them. This is a very simple little renovation that anyone can do if they have the urge.
2 - Replace or Repair a Deck
Many people let their decks fall into disrepair quite easily. Being exposed to the elements all the time means that a deck really does have a lifespan less than many other parts of the home. The severity of this renovation may depend on the state of the deck. If it’s still in pretty good shape, then simply power washing the deck followed by some new weather resistant stain may be all that’s needed and come in under $100. If you need to replace the deck, costs are obviously going to rise. However, you can control exactly how the deck is going to look. Some people like a split level deck so they can have the illusion of separate spaces with a table and chairs in one area and some plants and seating in the other. It’s really a case of personal preference.
3 - Upgrade to Hardwood Floors
This can be a fairly expensive upgrade depending on the size of the area you want to renovate, but it’s something that will add a huge amount of class and beauty to a home. There are a number of different hardwoods that can be chosen, each with their own benefits. Some are more durable, while others are more appealing to the eye. When it comes to installing flooring, it can be either a DIY or contractor job. If you’re not sure of your skills, it’s good to skip it and go with the contractor. Messing up a flooring project can have expensive repercussions.
4 - Upgrade a Bathtub
If a home hasn’t had an upgrade to their master bathroom in the last decade, there’s a good chance that the bathtub area can be improved. Deeper tubs with whirlpool jets can make for an extra relaxing experience to anyone who loves a dip. Another option would be to replace the bath with a large purpose built shower. These can have multi exit faucets which let you enjoy the normal shower experience, or instead go for the rainshower experience of having the shower directly overhead with a much larger shower head. This can be a wonderful experience and the extra space in the shower feels wonderfully luxurious.
